Marvel movies when they release are alway an event and the new Spider-Man: No Way Home is no exception making its debut at the top of the North American box office with the third highest ever.

Also making its debut this weekend at number 5 is Nightmare Alley from Oscar winning director Guillermo del Toro.

It been quote a week for Sony, the MCU and Spider-Man as the latest movie from the Sony/Marvel MCU hits cinemas in the US and blows away all competition to create the third biggest North American debut in history, with only Avengers Endgame and Avengers Infinity War doing better, and both those movies featured Spider-man!

The movie take an absolutely massive $260.1 Million on its debut, including preview shows on Thursday, which is higher that Sony's original expectation of around the $252 Million mark.

It also means that the movie instantly becomes the top movie of 2021 smashing its way past previous holder and fellow MCU movie Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.

In fact the top 4 movies of 2021, and hence the tick of the global pandemic, are all directly or indirectly movies from the MCU.

The movie is also responsible for a massive 92% of all money taken at the US box office this weekend.

Encanto

Disney's latest animated movie has turned into a big hot for the Mouse House as it spends another weekend at number 2 with $6.4 Million, a 31% drop over last weekend.

This gives the film a total gross of $81.4 Million after 4 weeks of release.

West Side Story

Legendary director Steven Spielberg's latest movie drop drop the top to number 3 this weekend with $3.6 Million, a hefty 65% drop over last weekend.

Its unfair to call the movie a flop but despite the very positive critical and audience reviews the movie has only taken $18.2 Million after 2 weeks.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife

Another weekend in the top 5 for the Ghostbusters sequel as it falls to number 4 this weekend with $3.4 Million, a 52% drop over last weekend.

The movie has now taken $117.2 Million over 5 weeks of release and is the 10th top movie of 2021 in North America.

Nightmare Alley

The latest movie from Guillermo del Toro starring the likes of Bradley Cooper and Cate Blanchett among others hots the box office at number 5 with $2.8 Million.
