World Box Office Analysis 17th - 19th January 2020: Smith and Lawrence Bad Boys sequel top the global box office on their return to our multiplex

Bad Boys For Life
Bad Boys For Life tops the global box office in its debut week of release with a far better than expected weekend gross while 1917 drops to number 2.

Bad Boys For Life

It's been 17 years since Will Smith and Martin Lawrence lance teamed up in a Bad Boys movie but it looks like the cinema going public have not forgotten the fun as the movie takes $97.7 Million from 40 countries on its debut.

A fourth movie has already been green lit by Sony and this debut must be giving them a lot of faith and potentially the franchise could go further.

Will Smith has had plenty of hits in the last 17 years but Martin Lawrence hasn't but with Smith's last film Gemini Man bombing at the box office this will be good news for both leads.

1917

Sam Mendes much praised war movie falls from the top to number 2 this weekend with $48.2 Million from 27 countries.

As the movie soaks up awards across the board this puts the movies total global gross at $138.6 Million after 2 weeks and with Oscars still to come this could climb a lot higher.

Dolittle

Dolittle

The Robert Downey Jr. post Avengers: Endgame movie got its US release this weekend, among others, but sits at number 3 on the box office in what is perhaps a disappointing movie for the expensive comedy.

The movie makes $39.7 Million on its second weekend from 47 countries wich pushes its total global gross to $49.8 Million.

Jumanji: The Next Level

The smash hit sequel falls to number 4 this weekend with $26.5 Million from 66 countries which pushes the movies total to $708.4 Million after 7 weeks.

The movie will not go near the $1 Billion mark which its predecessor came so close to crossing.

Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker

The final Star Wars movie in the saga falls to number 5 this weekend with a gross of $19.2 Million from 54 countries.

The movie has passes the $1 Billion mark at the global box office but it is the lowest grossing of the sequel trilogy and is being seen as a failure by Lucasfilms and Disney.
