UK box office top 5 breakdown weekend 18th - 20th June 2021
Making its debit at the top of UK box office this week is the sequel movie starring Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson which got its release in Monday.
The movie takes £1.6 Million across the whole week and takes £1 Million over the Friday - Sunday frame which would put it at number 3 behind Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway and In The Heights
Bad reviews for the movie means it may be short lived, the original movie from 2017 took £1.9 Million on its debut before a 5 week run on the box office.
Remaining at number 2 this week is the Peter Rabbit sequel movie which takes £1.1, a 28% increase from last weekend.
This has the movie back at the top of the box office over the weekend frame and gives the movie a £15.2 Million total over 5 weeks of release.
It is the top grossing movie in the UK for 2021 and the top grossing movie over the pandemic period, which will be coming to an end with the lockdown set to finish in July.
Director Jon M. Chu's adaptation of the hit broadway musical enters the box office at number 3 this weekend with £1.07 Million, just shy of the Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway total for the weekend and was nearly the top movie over the 3 day weekend.
The movie would of course have been the top new entry at number 2 had it not been for The Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard extended debut run.
John Krasinski's horror hit falls from the top after 2 weeks to number 4 this weekend with £1.02 Million, a 22% drop over last weeeknd.
Three weeks on and the movie has taken a very respectable £8.2 Million at the UK box office.
Disney's hit movie from the 101 Dalmatians universe falls to number 3 this weekend with £731,639 which is almost the same as last weeks total.
The movie now has a total gross of £7.02 Million after 4 weeks of release.
As In The Height makes its debut a number 2 on this weekends box office the horror movie A Quiet Place Part II goes back to the top on its third weekend of release.
It was a closely fought battle with only a couple of hundred dollars between the two movies, also making its debut this weekend is sequel movie Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway at number 3.
US box office QuickView
UK box office top 5 breakdown weekend 11th - 13th June 2021.
Director John Krasinski silent horror movie goes back to the top of the US box office on its third weekend of release as it has a close battle with In The Heights.
The movie takes $11.4 Million this weekend which is a 40 % drop from last weekend, but its total goes over $100 Million to $108.9 Million making it the first movie to over the milestone since the pandemic started in March 2020.
Making its debut at number 2 this week and narrowly missing out on the top spot is the Jon M. Chu directed musical which takes $11.4 Million over the weekend.
The movie may have limited appeal but its a strong summer movie so there is the potential for it to stick around on the box office over the summer months.
The sequel to 2018's Peter Rabbit makes its US debut at number 3 this weekend with a gross of $10.4 Million.
The movie has been a bit hit in the UK and other areas across the globe but doesn't seem to have hit the right note in America with a slightly disappointing debut.
The horror sequel falls from the top to number 4 this weekend with a gross of $10.02 Million, a 58% drop from its debut, but not that bad for a summer horror movie.
The movie has a total gross in the US of $43.8 Million.
Disney's 101 Dalmatians prequel falls to number 5 this weekend with $6.7 Million, a 39% drop over last weekend giving the movie a total gross of $56 Million after 3 weeks of release.
The US cinema going public is enjoying its horror movies at the start of the summer season as The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It its the top spot on its debut weekend replacing A Quiet Place Part II.
Last weeks horror movie falls to number 2 this weekend and elsewhere on the top 5 is a new entry for animated movie Spirit Untamed which is at 4.
Also worth a note this week is the first movie to get over $100 Million since the pandemic started will happen by next weekend, and although Godzilla Vs. Kong has come very close it will be A Quiet Place Part II which will go part the milestone first.
US box office QuickView
US box office top 5 breakdown weekend 4th - 6th June 2021
The latest movie in the now long running Conjuring Universe hits the top of the US box office on its debut weekend with a gross of $6.2 Million.
As you would expect this is lower than the previous film in the main Conjuring series for which this is the third movie, those two both came in on their debut's with $40 Million.
The John Krasinski directed sequel movie falls to number 2 after showing a strong debut weekend which came in almost identical the 2018 original movie.
On its second weekend this movie takes $19.5 Million which is 60% down from last weekend, but similar to the original, and this gives the movie a fantastic $88.6 Million total.
Disney's 101 Dalmatians villain origins movie falls to number 3 this weekend with $11.2 Million, a 47% drop and not bad considering you watch it at home with a Disney+ subscription and an extra $30.
The movie has taken $43.6 Million over its 2 weekend release.
New at number 4 is the animated movie which is a sequel to the almost forgotten 2002 movie Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron.
This movie takes a fairly reasonable $6.2 Million on its debut, reasonable because its has little publicity and the country is still keeping cinemas at limited capacity.
Disney's animated tale spends another week inside the top 5, at number 5 with $1.3 Million, a 35% drop from last weekend.
The movie has now taken $53.5 Million, and even more amazing this weekend is that its now available on Disney+ without paying the extra $30 for the privilege!
Disney bring us an origins movie which is a spin off from their successful 1990's 101 Dalmatians movie. The story is based on villanous Cruella De Vil and shows how the fashion designer got obsessed with black and white spots.
The movie stars among other Emma Stone, Emma Thompson and Mark Strong.
Movie Synopsis
Set in 1970s in London during the punk rock movement, the film follows Estella de Vil, an aspiring fashion designer, and explores the path that will lead her to become a notorious criminal known as Cruella de Vil.

Disney have taken their time to decide how to release the Marvel movie Black Widow starring Scarlett Johansson but today they have moved the movie from May 7th to July 9th and as well as movie theatres will release the movie to Disney+ Premier Access, so an extra £19.99 ($30 in America) per movie on top of your monthly cost!
With cinemas in the UK set to re-open mid May this a needed delay, although this now gives the movie a clash with Top Gun: Maverick so we could see a move there soon as well.
This new release date for Black Widow means also on the move is another Marvel movie, Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, which changes from July 9th to September 3rd, same day as Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City.
The Pixar movie Luca will still release on June 18th but will go directly to Disney+, interestingly not the extra cost Premier Access, a surprise movie as kids movies have done very well during the lockdowns?
Also on the move are Free Guy starring Ryan Reynolds which changes May 21st to August 13th, which means The King's Man is changing August 20th to December 22nd, currently the same day as Jon Chu's screen adaptation of Wicked~2024 and Kenneth Branagh's Death on the Nile which moves September 17th 2021 to February 11th 2022, currently the same day as video game adaptation Uncharted.
Finally the 101 Dalmatians prequel movie Cruella will still get a May 28th release but as well as a theatrical release will get a Disney+ with Premier Access, so yes the extra £19.99 ($30 in America).
This is a movie Disney had to make, especially for Black Widow with its much delayed release. Cinemas across the world are staring to open up as the pandemic gets under control with the rollout of the vaccine doing well, lets hope this is the last move for these movies.
With cinemas set to open in the UK around May 17th the return of the box office is still a couple of months away but getting close.
If your fed up with these moves, heres Ryan Reynolds to put a light hearted spin on it all.
