Spider-Man: No Way Home successfully fought off the Keneth Branagh directed Belfast to remain at the top of the UK box office for a 6th straight weekend while the afore mentioned Belfast came in at number 2.

Also making its debut this weekend is Nightmare Alley from director Guillermo del Toro which came in at 4 while the Denzel Washington directed A Journal For Jordan is new at 14 with £50,511.

UK box office QuickView

  • Number 1 - Spider-Man: No Way Home (6th weekend)
  • Highest debut - Belfast (@2)
  • Longest run - Ghostbusters: Afterlife (10 weeks)
  • Highest total gross - Spider-Man: No Way Home (£87.4 Million)

UK box office top 5 weekend breakdown 21st - 23rd January 2022.

Spider Man: No Way Home

6 weeks at the top now for the Marvel and Sony web slinger as the mega smash movie starring Tom Holland and Benedict Cumberbatch takes £2.3 Million over its 6th weekend of release, a good 27% drop over last weekend.

The movie has now taken an amazing £87.4 Million total in the UK, and it is the top movie of 2022 with £17.6 Million taken this year.

It is also the second top movie released in 2021 with only No Time To Die having taken more and to top it all off it is the 7th top movie of all time in the UK.

There is every possibility that the movie could stay at the top of another weekend, although with the release of animated sequel Sing 2 on Friday it has its work cut out, and this weeks top new movie Belfast is pulling in the audiences as word of mouth is hyping the film.

Belfast

Directed by Kenneth Branagh and starring Caitriona Balfe and Judi Dench this Irish movie is the highest debut of the weekend with £2.3 Million.

The movie actually topped the Irish and Scottish box office this week doing better than Spider-Man: No Way Home in those territories, but when combined it has to make do with a very strong number 2 debut.

With this successful UK launch the movie is the 5th top movie of 2022.

It has its work cut out, but the mid week chart has the movie as the top film of the week.

Scream

After making its debut at number 2 last week the movie drops to number 3 on its sophomore weekend with a take of £1.2 Million, a large 49% drop.

The movie has now taken £4.7 Million in total and is the 2nd top movie of 2022 so far.

Nightmare Alley

Horror master Guillermo del Toro brings his latest movie to the big screen in the shape of a drama starring Bradley Cooper and Cate Blanchett which makes its debut with £550,868.

The movie has got good reviews and word of mouth but seems to have not made an impact on the movies box office showing and which could result in the film disappearing in a short amount of time.

Clifford the Big Red Dog

Seven weeks on now for the live action version of the animated series as the movie drops to number 5 with £389,508, a low 38% drop over last weekend.

This gives the film a total UK gross of £4.1 Million, it is now the 4th top movie of 2022 with £2.5 Million of that taken this year.

Spider Man: No Way Home

The smash hit Marvel/Sony movie spends a second weekend at the top of the US box office with a weekend gross of $81.5 Million, a 69% drop over last weekend which isn't too bad considering the giant debut gross the movie had.

The Matrix Resurrections

The long awaited follow up to the highly successful Matrix series of movies makes its debut this weekend at number 3 with $12 Million.

The pre hype for the movie was sky high, but an luke warm response on its release, and a simultaneous HBO Max release has by the looks of it damaged its box office potentital.

The King's Man

A prequel to the Kingsmen movies lands at number 4 this weekend with a gross of $6.3 Million.

Matthew Vaughn directs once again, but Ralph Fiennes takes over in the lead role this time, but diminishing returns seems to have set in for this series.
