It was a largely static week this week at the UK box office, which is no surprise as there was no big new release and the FIFA World Cup started with England's first game on Saturday night.
With all that going on it was a surprise to see 22 Jump Street retain the top spot with a weekend gross of £2.2 million, this brings the films total to £9.8 million after 10 days of release.
Maleficent, X-Men Days of Future Past and Edge of Tomorrow all stayed in their respective places for another week with only Maleficent taking over a million pound from those 3.
Highest new film of the week goes to Oculus which took a less than expected with £413,000, although there were previews of How to Train Your Dragon 2 which beat it with £519,000 but this will not count on this weeks chart and go to their debut in a few weeks.
Other new films this week are - Belle at 7 - Devils Knot at 10
This time last year Man of Steel took the top spot on it's debut weekend of release knocking After Earth into the runner up spot.
The biggest of the weeks new releases hits the top of the box office with no current releases able to challenge it.
The 21 Jump Street sequel 22 Jump Street debuts at the top of the box office this week with a weekend take of around £4.8 million.
21 Jump Street was released in March 2012, a tougher time of year for a films release, it debuted at 2 taking £1.5 on it's debut going on to take nearly 10 million over 7 weeks. With better reviews this time around 22 should do better.
Jump Street removes last week top film Maleficent down to the runner up position although it still manages a £2 million weekend with a 10 day gross of £11 million.
Little else doing well on the box office this week, especially Grace of Monaco with enters the box office at 9 with just over £200,000 is takings, the one off D-Day concert did better from far less screens.
This time last year and despite the terrible reviews Will Smith and son debuted at the top with After Earth knocking The Hangover Part III to second place.
Five years ago the Terminator saga continued with Terminator Salvation taking over at the top on it's debut knocking Night at the Museum 2 down to second place.
Ten years ago Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban took over from The Day After Tomorrow at the top which fell to second place.
Fifteen years ago Notting Hill retained it's place at the top for a second week leaving Human Traffic to debut at 3 at the highest new film.
Twenty years ago Four Weddings and a Funeral was still the top film around with Beverly Hills Cop III and Bad Girls debuting well.
Twenty Five years ago Indianan Jones and the Last Crusade was still the top film in June with the Bond film Licence to Kill and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels debuting well.
Nothing could stop the Man of Steel from taking the top of the UK box office this week as Zack Snyers new take on Superman enters at the top.
We all saw it coming, like a speeding bullet perhaps, the re-imagined Superman franchise achieved big numbers last weekend. During it's opening weekend it took £11.2 million in Britain making it the 36 best opening weekend ever in the UK. After Earth falls into second place, not bad considering the bad reviews it's had.
Last year Prometheus was still at the top of the UK box office and during a quiet week for new releases Rocks of Ages was the highest new film at 4.
Five years go Sex and the City got knocked from the top spot into 2nd as The Incredible Hulk took over during it's opening weekend.
Ten years ago it was still all about The Matrix Reloaded riding the top spot while the highest new film was Identity at 3.
Fifteen years ago it was still The Wedding Singer at the top, and with almost no new films out that week the highest new film was Stiff Upper Lips right down at 10.
After a bad reception and opening weekend in America the UK shows more love for Will Smith and son by taking After Earth to the top.
Directed by M. Night Shyamalan, once the talk of Hollywood, After Earth stars the two Smith boys in a film set 1000 years from now in a time when there are no people left on earth. A quiet week for new releases mean that a £2.2 million gross saw off last weeks top film, Hangover Part III which slips to second place.

Five years ago Sex and the City was still keeping the top spot warm which slapstick comedy Superhero The Movie was the highest new film at 3 with £800,000. Ten year ago The Matrix Reloaded was still at the top as Anger Management crept into number 2 with £1.7 million.
Fifteen years ago Adam Sandler was there again hitting the top spot with The Wedding Singer which debuted at the top with £1 million.
