News from around the web

Despite it being Halloween new horror film Ouija could not make it's way to the top of the UK box office and instead the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles went back to the top in their third week of release.

Taking nearly £1.5 million for the weekend the Turtles have now spent 3 weeks on release and have taken a total of £11.7 million. The return of the Turtles for a new generation has been a massive success and has so far taken $434.5 million across the world.

Highest new film this week is Ouija which has taken £1.4 million, arguably because of the Halloween weekend and people looking for a fright, the film could disappear quite quickly.

Last weeks top film, Fury, falls to number 3 this week with £1.2 million. It was in reality a very tight top 3 this week with only about £200,000 separating the top films.

Historical charts

A year ago - Thor: The Dark World took the top spot on it's opening weekend knocking Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 into the runner up spot.

Five years ago - In the wake of his death the documentary about Michael Jacksons concerts that never happend This Is It took the top spot knocking Pixars Up down the two.

Ten years ago - Shark Tale hung onto the top spot for a second week with the highest new film coming in at 4 in the shape of Finding Neverland.

Fifteen years ago - Halloween took the box office by storm with The Blair Witch Project climbing to the top spot on it's second week of release, the highest new film was Vampires right down in seventh place.

This week war film Fury starring Brad Pitt takes over at the top of the UK box office on it's debut week of release.

A reasonably good weekend gross of £2.7 million sees then over take Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles after they spend just a single week at number 1.

Fury is already director David Ayer highest grossing film in the UK although for Brad Pitt it has a long way to go to beat the £25 million of Ocean's Eleven.

Fallling into second place after it's top spot debut last week, the Turtles manage to add £2 million to their gross bringing it to £7.9 after a second weekend of play.

Other new film on the top 15 this week are: The Book of Life at 4, Happy New Year at 8, Love Rosie at 9 and The Babadook at 10.

Historical Charts

One year ago - This time last year Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2 made it's debut at the top of the box office knocking Captain Phillips down just a single place to 2.

Five years ago - Up retained it's lead on the box office for a second week leaving the top new film to be Saw VI at two trying the capture the Halloween market.

Ten years ago - Sharks Tale spent another week at the top of the box office, AVP Alien Vs Predator was the highest new film at 2.

Fifteen years ago - Disney's Tarzan spent another week at the top and with a fairly static top 3 the highest new film was Steve martin and Eddie Murphy in Bowfinger at 4.

After a single week at the top Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 is knocked down by the Thor sequel.

Thor: The Dark world to give it a full title enters the chart at the top. Thor 2 was released at the UK box office at the very start of November last year, it entered at number one with £8.6 million.

It stayed at the box office for 7 weeks grossing nearly £20 million and it the 167th top grossing film in the UK.

On the world stage it took $634 million dollars and is the 71st highest grossing film ever.
