United Kingdom box office top 5 box office breakdown weekend 29th - 31st October 2021

No Time To Die

Far and away the biggest hit of 2021 (so far) goes back to the top of the UK box office in a very tight battle with Dune with the Bond movie winning the race by just £202,149.

Daniel Craigs final Bond outing takes £3.5 Million over the weekend, a very slim 25% drop over last weekend when it fell to number 2.

This gives the movie a total UK gross of £85.9 Million over its 5 weeks of release, this also makes it the top movie of 2021 and the 5th top movie ever in the UK.

Unlike Tenet last year, which was released too early, the Bond movie, which has a bigger appeal anyway, has got people to go back to cinemas, and for the 5th weekend running the box office top 15 has grossed over £15 Million, something which hasn't happened since the end of 2019 start of 2020 when Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker was released.

Also the movie has broken the record to most consecutive days grossing over £1 Million, it currently stands at 33 days.

Dune

Director Denis Villeneuve's take on the classic sci-fi movie falls to number 2 this weekend with £3.3 Million, this gives it a very good 44% drop on its second weekend of release.

This gives the movie a total gross of £13.2 Million and it pushes it into the top 10 movies of 2021 at number 9.

Venom: Let There Be Carnage

Staying put at number 3 this weekend is the Spiderverse villain movie which takes £1,5 Million on its 3rd weekend, a good 39% drop over last week, giving the movie a total UK gross of £14.7 Million and the 7th top movie of 2021.

The Addams Family 2

The animated sequel goes back up to number 4 this weekend with a take of £1.4 Million, and increase of 40% over last weekend, largely due to the school autumn half term.

This gives the movie a total gross of £8.9 Million over 4 weeks of release.

The Boss Baby 2: Family Business

Also benefitting from the school half term in another animated sequel which takes £1.3 Million over the weekend as the movie falls to number 5, this is an 11% increase from last weekend, this movie has taken £4.9 Million after 2 weeks of release.

This week Sony unleashed its villain movie Venom from the Spider-Man universe onto the world against Warner Bros. A Star Is Born and the black slime movie knocked it out of the park.

Venom

With a weekly gross of over $200 million Venom was far and away the biggest film of the week, but it was also one of the widest releases being released into 59 markets.

The Tom Hardy starring movie joins a long line of Marvel movies although this isn't from the Disney MCU it still has a similar look and feel, especially since the MCU has got a bit darker.

A Star Is Born

The Bradly Cooper directed and starring movie is at number 2 this week with a global gross of $55.2 million from 32 countries.

The movie also stars Lady Ga Ga and is widely being tipped for Oscar recognition so could hang around for quite a while and the positive reviews will only help as well.

Project Gutenberg

Now open in 6 countries the Chinese movie takes an incredible $28 million this week to take it to number 3 on the global box office, the films total global gross is $98.5 million.

Smallfoot

The animated family movie falls to number 4 this week and it looks like the movie might sink faster than expected. released in 58 countries it took $26.6 million this week for a $75 million total gross.

Shadow

Still only available in 1 country this Chinese film takes up the number 5 position this week with an $18 million weekly global gross which takes the film to $65 million total.

The was a battle at the top of the Uk box office this week between The Hitmans Bodyguard and Dunkirk and with a gap of less than £50,000 Bodyguard won.

The comedy starring Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson took £1.9 million on its debut weekend to reach the top, this is the lowest opening for a film to reach number 1 since Billy Elliot The Musical Live took the top spot in September 2014.

This means that the total gross for the top 15 films is also at a low with just £10 million taken.

Falling from the top is Dunkirk, although it held on tight and in the end lost to by a narrow margin taking to second place with £1.8 million.

Dunkirk is still showing strong figures from the week and took £4 million Monday - Sunday to brings its total to nearly £50 million, it is easily the second top grossing film of 2017.

Interestingly the Monday - Sunday figures puts The Hitmans Bodyguard at number 4 with Annabelle Creation and The Emoji Movie coming second and third.

Highest grossing film on the UK box office this week is Dunkirk while the longest running film is Despicable Me 3 with 8 weeks on the chart, its currently number 6.
