It's that time of year when we look back at the most this and that of a year.

One of the more interesting lists is that of the most pirated movies of the year.

2014 is the year where The Wolf of Wall Street has been pirate downloaded more than any other.

With Frozen at number two, both films selling really well on home video it does beg the question about piracy ruining sales!

Here is the top 10

  1. The Wolf of Wall Street: 30.035 million downloads
  2. Frozen: 29.919 million downloads
  3. Gravity: 29.357 million downloads
  4. The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug: 27.627 million downloads
  5. Thor: The Dark World: 25.749 million downloads
  6. Captain America: The Winter Soldier: 25.628 million downloads
  7. The Legend of Hercules: 25.137 million downloads
  8. X-Men: Days of Future Past: 24.380 million downloads
  9. 12 Years a Slave: 23.653 million downloads
  10. The Hunger Games: Catching Fire: 23.543 million downloads

As if there was any doubt about what would be at the top of the UK box office charts this week, and without any hassle The Hunger Games: Mockingly Part 1 has a terrific first week of release.

Taking over £12 million on it's debut weekend this is the third in The Hunger Games series, which has grown in strength as each film has been released.

The previous film in the series took almost exactly the same on it's opening weekend, but the first film, which was introducing a new franchise to cinema, took far less at just under £5 million.

Last weeks top film, Interstellar, falls to third place this week with The Imitation Game staying put in second place.

Historical Charts

A year ago - The Hunger Games: Catching Fire took over at the top of the chart knocking Gravity down to second place.

Five years ago - Another franchise, The Twilight Saga had it's second film, The Twilight Saga: New Moon, enter at the top of the box office knocking 2012 down to second place.

Ten years ago - Bridget Jones The Edge of Reason kept it's hold on the top of the box office with the highest new film entering at 3, After The Sunset directed by Brett Ratner and starring Pierce Brosnan.

Fifteen years ago - The Sixth Sense was still enjoying it's run at the top of the box office with Harrison Ford starring in the Sydney Pollack directed film Random Hearts being the highest new film right down at seven.

After just a single week at the top The Hunger Games: Catching Fire falls a single place and Philomena takes over at the top.

Starring Judi Dench and Steve Coogan this quirky British film was released at the box office at the beginning of November last year and spent 7 weeks on the box office.

The film entered at 4 but did climb to 3 for a couple of weeks, it was kept from the top by Thor: The Dark World and Gravity.

Other new Video releases on the chart this week: - Saving Mr Banks - Diana - Free Birds -

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire tops the DVD and Blu-ray sales chart this week on its debut week on sale.

Released at cinemas at the end of November last year this film proved that The Hunger Games series had become a phenomenon.

Spending 9 weeks on the box office it grossed £33.8 million dollars and is the 58th top film ever at the UK.

It also grossed $828.3 million worldwide and is the 33rd highest grossing film ever.

Last week best selling disk, Gravity, fell to 3 this week after Escape Plan enter in the runner up position.

No move for Gravity at the top of the DVD/Blu-ray sales chart, no doubt the Oscars help it out no end, highest new film is at 2 this week.

With Gravity holding its own at the top, Enders Game had to settle for the runner up spot to debut. The Harrison Ford starring film was meant to be a big sci-fi film released at the end of October last year, but a weak entry at 5 on the box office saw the film sink after 4 weeks taking just shy of £3 million.

It's an interesting week for movie sales, Disney has its annual sale on currently and this has seen 9 Disney disks enter the top 20. The highest of these is Monsters University from last year, but The Little Mermaid has also made a high entry at 7, incredible for a 25 year old film.
