This week Paramount lets loose Michael Bays latest Transformers film, Transformers The Last Night, onto the American market and like all the other films in the series it grabs the top spot on its debut.

Taking a series low for a debut of $45 million the film takes over at the top from Cars 3, but it proves that the Transformers films are loosing their popularity on the cinema going market.

Not only is the film the lowest debuting film of the series but with this debut it might not even be in the top 10 grossing films of 2017 in the US.

Another series of films struggling is Cars which the third film this week drop from the top spot to number 3 with a weekend gross of $25 million for a total gross of just under $100 million.

Wonder Woman holds film at number 2 this week with $25 million, in fact Cars 3 is claiming the exact same weekend taking so there could be a rare case of a 2 and 3 place tie.

Longest time on the box office this week is from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 which now has clocked up 8 weeks, its also the highest total grossing movie with $380 million.

At the US box office this weekend Pixar released its latest offering Cars 3 and although it took the top spot is was a relatively low opening for the animation studio at $53.5 million.

For a Cars film it was lower than either Cars or Cars 2, for a Pixar movie it was lower than all their films but Ratatouille.

Lightning McQueen and the gang have never been one of Pixar’s popular characters despite this being the third film and they have a themed area at Disneys California Adventure. so clearly someone at Pixar likes them.

Wonder Woman slips to second place on its third week of release, although it is still performing well with a $40.7 million weekend.

The total US gross of the film now sits at $274 million and will easily get to $300 million and has $400 million in its sights.

Also new this week is All Eyez On Me at number 3 with $27 million and 47 Meters Down at number 5 with $11.5 million, Rough Night also makes a new entry at number 7, the film had high hopes.

Longest running film and highest grossing film this week is Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, 7 weeks and $374 million.

This weekend with the release of the highly anticipated Ridley Scott film Alien: Covenant we were always going to see a new film at the top, and Guardians gets push off by the Alien movie.

Despite the mediocre reviews the films launch has it enter the top with a weekend gross of &5.1 million, compared to its predecessor Prometheus this is a million lower.

Falling from the top is Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 after a couple of weeks at the top, a £3,2 million weekend brings the films total to £33 million after 3 weeks of play.

Studios were a bit nervous to release new films against the Alien movie but Miss Sloan starring hot property Jessica Chastain entered the chart at 8 with just over £190,000.

Also new was the Cinema event feature Der Rosenkavalier: Met Opera 2017 which took a little over £313,000 and is at 6.

Beaty and The Beast is the longest running film on the box office with 9 weeks of release and has taken an amazing £71 million, its the 8th top grossing film ever in the UK.
