Synopsis for Saw X

Set between the events of Saw and Saw II, a sick and desperate John Kramer travels to Mexico for a risky and experimental medical procedure in hopes of a miracle cure for his cancer - only to discover the entire operation is a scam to defraud the most vulnerable. Armed with a newfound purpose, the infamous serial killer returns to his work, turning the tables on the con artists in his signature visceral way through devious, deranged and ingenious traps.

Check out the Salty Popcorn movie page for more information on this upcoming film.

Chris Rock stars in and produces the new film from the Saw series which today gets a new trailer, this time taking a more serial killer drama vibe than the hack and slash of the previous film.

As the movie turns away from the previous series which lasted for 6 movies, a 3D finale and then the stand alone movie Jigsaw, this looks to be a more serious movie in the vein of director David Fincher's Seven from 1996.

In the new trailer we get to see Chris Rock flexing his acting muscles and we also get our first proper showing of Samuel L, Jackson who plays an ex-cop and Rocks dad.

The movie is set for release on 21st May 2021 in the UK and a week earlier on 14th May in America.

With very good reviews from critics, good pre launch buzz and part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe there was never any doubt that Thor: Ragnarok was going to have a huge debut at the US box office.

That debut was to the tune of $121 million which means the film starring Chris Hemsworth is the 7th biggest opening for an MCU film.

To round out the numbers its also the 17th number one film from the Disney series and the 8th which has delivered a $100 million plus opening, it beats Spiderman Homecoming from earlier this year.

With Thor out of the way last weeks halloween hit Jigsaw, as expected, falls hard this week and ends up at number 3 with $6.7 million, its total US gross now sits just below $30 million.

Also new on the US box office this week is A Bad Moms Christmas, maybe a little early for people to be thinking of the Christmas season but the film makes a very impressive debut at 2 with $17 million.

Longest running film on the US top 10 is Blade Runner 2049 which clocks up 5 weeks and with its impressive $122 million debut Thor: Ragnarok is the highest grossing movie on the chart, it has been a very slow second half to the year, until now.

America celebrates Halloween in style and the Hollywood studios embrace this aplenty and this week the American public flocked to see the new Saw movie Jigsaw.

Bringing in a relatively low, especially for an established series, $16.2 million Jigsaw hits the top during the season when people like to be scared.

Expect the film to sink down the charts quickly as if often the case with films that rely on seasonal attraction for its return.

Boo2! A Madea Halloween from Tyler Perry falls from the top on its second weekend to number 2 with a weekend take of $10 million.

This brings the films total gross to $35 million after 2 weeks of release, this followup is falling faster than the previous film which came out exactly a year ago.

Also new this week is Thank You For Your Service which enters the US box office at number 6 with a $3.7 million opening weekend.

Longest running and highest total grossing film this week is for another week IT, the film has now taken $323.7 in total grosses and been on the box office for 8 weeks, this week it sits at 10.

Two big franchises chose this weekend to release their latest episodes and despite Jigsaw which is part of the Saw series doing well Thor: Ragnarok was the clear winner.

The Disney Marvel Cinematic Universe has become a mammoth series of films that simply cant be matched at the moment and the all star Avengers cars in Thor 3 (try saying that fast) debuts with an incredible £12.3 million making it the 47th top opening in the UK ever.

The film which stars Chris Hemsworth as Thor and is directed by exciting newcomer Taika Waititi joins the ever increasing lineup of Marvel movies and the ever increasing gross for Disney.

The future for the film looks good and, this is nearly double the opening of Thor: The Dark World which went on to gross £20 million so we could have a £35 - 40 million total UK gross.

New in the runner up position is the latest Saw film, this time by the name go Jigsaw, its actually the 8th Saw movie, and opens with £1.8 million.

This is a bit of a low for the series as the average opening for a Saw movie is about £2 - 3 million, but with Halloween this week it will see a boost, but then a big slump after, it could get to £5 million in total.

After a jump back to the top Blade Runner 2049 falls to number 5 with week with £0.6 million over the weekend, after 4 weeks of release this brings the films total to £17.4 million.

Also new this weekend was Breathe, a directorial debut from Andy Serkis starring former Spider-Man Andrew Garfield, it enters at number 8.

With Despicable Me 3 making a reappearance on the UK box office it is once again the longest running film with 17 weeks and the highest total grossing movie with £47.5 million .
