Despite Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse taking over $50 Million on its second weekend of release Transformers: Rise of the Beasts takes over at the top with a $60.5 Million debut.
With the long awaited The Flash movie hitting cinemas this weekend and almost certainly hitting the top next weekend we could see the first weekend in years with 3 movies taking over $50 Million at the US box office.
Highest new movie this weekend
This weekend the tenth movie in The Fast and the Furious series of movies gets its UK debut and tops the box office in the process with a gross of £5.8 Million.
The movie is just shy of there previous movie which took just over £6 Million on its debut in 2020 and it is well below the series high of Fast & Furious 8 which took £14 Million in April 2013.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 slips to number 2 this weekend after a couple of weeks at the top as the movies total gross hits £29 Million, below that of the previous movie.
The Super Mario Bros. Movie is still in the top 3 after 7 weeks of release as its gross passes another milestone of £50 Million at the UK box office.
Finally in the top 5 are a couple of new releases, Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret is at number 3 with £327,197 and Beau Is Afraid is at 5 with £231,370.
Also new this weekend is the event movie, Don Giovanni: Met Opera at 9 with £99,842.
Highest new movie this weekend
With the studios clearing their new release schedule for the second weekend of the MCU title Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 the movie stays at the top of the UK box office with a gross of just over £5 Million.
This pushes the movies total gross to nearly £25 Million which is just below the gross of the previous movie Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2.
With The Super Mario Bros. Movie remaining in second place the top new movie of the weekend is Love Again~2023 at number 3 with £340,785.
Also new this weekend is Book Club 2: The Next Chapter which makes its debut at 4 with £299,370, which is less than half the £720,858 debut of Book Club.
Outside the top 5 there is a new entry for the cinema even Eurovision Grand Final Live, the popular music content which got broadcast in cinemas for the first ever time and took £237,787 on its single day showing.
Finally The Eight Mountains was new at 12 with £72,025 and Machine Gun Kelly: Mainstream Sellout Live From Cleveland was a debut at 13 with £57,624.
Highest new movie this weekend
After a 4 week run at the top of the UK box office The Super Mario Bros. Movie is knocked off by the latest MCU movie Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3, but its not all good news as the threequel does not take as much as the sequel movie on its debut.
With such a bit movie getting its debut the studios cleared the schedule for a couple of weeks to give it time to breath, there were a couple of other new movies though, Jodi was new at 9 with £88,045 while Return to Seoul came in at 10 with £75,273.
Meanwhile outside the top 10 2018 came in at 13 with £52,211.
Highest new movie this weekend
Despite the hype, and generally good reviews the new Guardians of the Galaxy made its debut will less than that of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2, which is perhaps another sign that superhero fatigue is creeping in, something which director James Gunn has mentioned in the past.
That said the movie did debut at the top of the chart, knocking off The Super Mario Bros. Movie and is the 8th top grossing movie ever in the month of May.
After spending 4 weeks at the top the Nintendo video game adaptation falls just a single place to number 2 this weekend with a £1.3 Million gross
The movie is the top grossing movie of 2023 so far and is looking to top £50 Million by next weekend.
The Evil Dead sequel movie seems to be pleasing movie goers in the UK as the horror movie takes nearly £500,000 on its third weekend of release.
The British produces movie starring Jim Broadbent and Penelope Wilton falls to number 4 on its second weekend of release with a £336,519 gross.
Going back up the box office to number 5 is the former number 1 John Wick sequel which has a total UK gross of £17 Million after 7 weeks of release.
