As Warner Bros. unleash the next film in its expanding DC Universe hopes are high that Wonder Woman will kick it into high gear, and with a $223 million opening from 56 countries it can be considered a success.

With man of Steel and Batman V Superman Dawn of Justice not really setting the box office alight the way many had hoped we now have the DC movie the fans have been longing for as Wonder Woman pleases critics and fans alike.

After a week atop the global box office last week Pirates of The Caribbean: Salazars Revenge falls to number 2 with $95.4 million from 55 countries, the films tepid reception with critics and fans has done the film no favours and it cant compete with a superhero juggernaut.

We will have to see if this means a slow down or end to the series, Disney has got used to $1 billion plus grosses for the series and this will most likely come no-where near that figure at the film reaches the half billion mark globally.

Making a decent debut at number 4 is Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie, $24.2 million from 9 countries isn't bad for a film with little hype.

All change at the top this week as Disney take over with their animated blockbuster Big Hero 6 making it's debut.

Like it's predecessor from the Mouse House Big Hero 6 makes it's debut at the top of the box office, and like Frozen which debuted with £4.7 million Big Hero 6 takes takes £4.2.

The release is just before the Uk school half term holiday which will see a massive boost in it's takings, and although it will do well it wont do as well as the juggernaut that has been Frozen.

Falling from the top spot this week is American Sniper which is this week at 3 and a total gross just shy of £10 million.

Making it's debut at 2, and only why of the top spot by £50,000, is Kingsman The Secret Service.

Other new films this week are: Inherent Vice at 9 and Les Contes Dhoffmann Met Opera 2015 at 10.

A year ago - The Wolf of Wall Street was holding onto the top spot for another week while the highest new film was That Awkward Moment which came in at 3.

Five years ago - There was still no move for Avatar as it held onto the top spot while the highest new film was Mel Gibsons try at a comeback movie in Edge of Darkness at 3.

Ten years ago - Meet The Fockers was the highest new film which debuted at the top of the box office knocking Closer down to the runner up spot.

Fifteen years ago - Double Jeopardy made it's debut at the top of the chart knocking Angelas Ashes down to the number 2 spot.

Frozen from Disney has scaled heights that the Mouse House could have in no way imagined on it's release at the back end of last year, and now it's the 3rd highest grossing film of all time.

All that stands in it's way is the two James Cameron Juggernaut's of Avatar and Titanic which with over $2 billion in world takings will be hard to shift.

Frozen has to date done $1.8 Billion of business across the globe and with Titanic on $2.2 Billion it'll find it hard to match that.

Still for an animated film it's just toppled Iron Man 3 from the number 3 spot with ease and Disney have their biggest film for a number of years on their hands, with merchandise takings as well this has been massive.
