There is never a time like Christmas to bring peace on earth, new movie Violent Night doesn't think so! The BBFC has given the movie a 15 age rating in the UK for strong bloody violence, gore, language, sex references.

The movie stars David Harbour who was previously seen in Black Widow in 2021 and and the 2019 remake of Hellboy, it also stars Beverly D'Angelo who is most famous for being the mother in the National Lampoons movies, in particular that Christmas classic National Lampoons Christmas Vacation.

The movie is directed by Tommy Wirkola who is best known for directing Hansel and Gretel Witch Hunters but also directed The Trip in 2021.

When a group of mercenaries attack the estate of a wealthy family on Christmas Eve, Santa Claus must step in to save the day.

There were no new releases on the box office top 10 this weekend as The Croods: A New Age remained at the top for a third weekend.

Catalogue movies ones again did very well with half the top ten as Elf, How The Grinch Stole Christmas, The Polar Express, National Lampoons Christmas Vacation and 2017's Wonder Woman all made re-appearances.

The Croods: A New Age

The animated sequel starring Nicholas Cage spends its third weekend at the top of the US box office with a weekend gross of $3.01 Million, 32% down from last weekend and by far the highest on the US box office this week.

After 3 weeks of release the movie has now taken $24.26 million, it will be one of the top grossing film during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown.

Half Brothers

The Mexican movie from director Luke Greenfield spends a second weekend at number 2 with a weekend gross of $490,000, a 30% drop from last weekend giving the film a total US gross of $1.38 Million.

Elf

The re-release of the 2003 movie jumps to number 3 this week with $400,000, a 20% increase over last weekend.

This gives the film a total gross since release of $176,12 Million.

Freaky

The Christopher Landon directed horror comedy is still doing well and this week takes $315,000 at number 4, 34% down on last weekend.

The movie has now taken a very respectable $8.23 Million over its 5 weeks of release.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas

The Jim Carey Christmas movie from 2000 re-enters the box office this weekend with $268,170 giving the movie a total gross of $260.31 Million since release.

For the first time on the US box office since Tenet made its debut back in August The Croods: A New Age makes a decent weekend debut.

The release schedule outside the new animated movie is next to nothing and the only other new releases this week are a couple of catalogue movies, the excellent National Lampoons Christmas Vacation at 9 and Disney's Frozen at 12.

The Croods: A New Age

Dreamworks follow up their 2013 movie The Croods which took $187.1 Million at the US box office with this sequel which Universal has released while the pandemic is still causing cinemas to shut their doors.

The movie still manages to take a very good $9.7 Million on its debut weekend which is second only to Tenet in the months since the pandemic effected the box office.

Freaky

Falling from the top after 2 weeks is the Vince Vaughn starring horror/comedy which takes $770,000, a 40% drop from last weekend.

The movie has now grossed $7.01 Million in the US over 3 weeks of release.

The War With Grandpa

Surprise hit on the last few months is the Robert De Niro starring movie which takes $643,937 over the weekend, only 14% down from last week.

The movie is showing incredible staying power and has grosses $17.25 Million over its 8 weeks of release.

Let Him Go

4 weeks on the the Dianne Lane starring movie falls to 4 with $453,000, 37% down, for a total of $8.73 Million after 4 weeks.

Come Play

Falling to 5 this week is Jacob Chase's horror movie which takes $387,000, 31% down from last weekend, for a $8.83 Million 5 week total.
