Free Guy

Spending a second weekend at the top of the US box office the Ryan Reynolds starring video game movie which takes $18.7 Million over its second weekend of release, a modest 34% drop over last weekend.

This gives director Shawn Levy his fourth biggest movie in the US with only the three Night at the Museum series ahead of it, and as were stil in the pandemic this is quite a feat.

The movie has a total US gross of $58.8 Million after 10 days of release and its now the 9th top movie of 2021.

The PAW Patrol: Movie

The children's TV series turned hit movie is doing big business across the world and is impressively the runner up movie to Free Guy across many territories, and in the US makes its debut at number 2 with a gross of $13 Million.

With the US summer holidays all but over now it will rely on mothers wanting to entertain their very young children for an hour or so to take it forward, failing that a big drop could be on the cards next weekend.

Jungle Cruise

The Disney hit movie remains at number 3 this weekend with $6.2 Million, a slim 345 drop over last weekend, which gives the movie a $92.5 Million total over 4 weeks and is the 5th top movie of 2021.

Don't Breathe 2

The horror movie sequel slips to number 4 this weekend with $5 Million, a large 52% drop, which puts the movies total gross at $19.6 Million after 10 days of release.

Respect

Falling to number 5 is the Aretha Franklin bio-pic starring Jennifer Hudson which has a second weekend gross of $3.8 Million, 57% doen on last weekend, the movie has taken $15.1 Million total in the US.

The world is going mad for La La Land as the strong Oscar contender conquers the UK box offfice on its debut weekend of release removing Assasins Creed in the process.

Its cleaning up at the awards ceremonies and is expected to do well at both the Oscars and the BAFTA's this month, and the UK takes it to the top of the box office with a very good gross of £6.5 million.

Taking a bit of a hit is last weeks top film Assasins Creed which falls from its top slot debut down to number 4 this week, a weekend gross of £0.9 million brings the total to just shy of £10 million.

Also new this week is Machester By The Sea starring Casey Affleck at 6 and Live by Night directed by and starring Ben Affleck at number 7.

Also new at number 9 is The Bye Bye Man and perhaps a little dissapointing at number 11 is Underworld Blood Wars.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is the longest running film on the chart with a 9 week run and highest total grossing film is Rogue One: A Star Wars Story with £62.7 million.

Historical charts

A year ago - Taking over at the top was soon to be Oscar winner The Revenant on its debut, it knocked off Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens to number 2 after 4 weeks on top.

Five years ago - War Horse took over at the top on its first week on release, it knocked Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol down to number 4 after 2 weeks at the top.

Ten years ago - Will Smith starred in The Pursuit of Happyness which made its debut at the top while Night at The Museum fell to number 2 after 2 weeks on top.

Fifteen years ago - The Lord of The Rings: The Fellowship of The Ring made it 4 weeks on top of the box office while the top new film was Rat Race which entered at number 3.

Twenty years ago - 101 Dalmatians went back to the top of the box office on its 5th week of release while the top new film was The Mirror Has Two Faces at number 7.

Twenty five years ago - Bill and Teds Bogus Journey stayed at the top and in a quiet week of releases there was nothing new on the box office.

The debut of video game adaptation Assasins Creed produces the first new number one film of 2017 knocking off Rogue One: A Star Wars Story after 3 weeks at the top.

Starring Michael Fassbender as the time travelling assassin the film based on a video game debuts at the top with £5.2 million including previews.

As a star one one of the biggest movie franchises around this is by no means the highest debut gross for Fassbender, but it is good for a non franchise debut, for director Justin Kurzel it is his best grossing film to date.

Its unclear if Assassins Creed will continue to do well, it got bad reviews from the press and the audience for these films is usually front loaded so it could drop sharp in the coming weeks.

Falling from the top after 3 weeks is Rogue One although the film enjoyed a decent fourth week gross of £3.2 million which brings its total gross in the UK to £59.6.

The film wont reach the heights of The Force Awakens but this is still a great total gross, also worth a note is that the Monday - Sunday gross of £7.6 million would have put it at number 1.

Also making its debut this week is A Monster Calls at 3 with £2 million and Silence at number 4 with £1.5 million.

Rogue One is the highest total grossing film around at the moment and the longest running film this week is Storks at number 15 which has been around now for 10 weeks.

Historical charts

A year ago - Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens made it four weeks at the top and by this point was the top grossing film in the UK ever while The Hateful Eight was the top new film at 2.

Five years ago - Mission:Impossible Ghost Protocol stayed at the top for a second weekend while Oscar winning film The Iron Lady was new at 3.

Ten years ago - Staying at the top for a second weekend was Night At The Museum while Miss Potter was the top new film at number 2.

Fifteen years ago - The Lord of The Rings: The Fellowship of The Ring stayed at the top for the new year while top new film was Behind Enemy Lines at number 3.

Twenty years ago - Evita made its debut at the top of the box office knocking 101 Dalmatians down to number 2 after 3 weeks at the top.

Twenty five years ago - Bill and Teds Bogus Journey entered the box office at the top while Curly Sue fell to number 3 after debuting at the top.

The last box office chart of the year and Rogue One A Star Wars Story is still the top film across the country for a third straight week while top new film Why Him? comes in at number 2.

With a weekend gross that is showing only a gradual slow down Rogue One takes £5.9 million, this brings the films total gross to £52 million and makes it the highest grossing film released in 2016 in the UK.

Its still not the highest grossing film in the calendar year 2016 with Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens £5 million ahead but for Disney/Lucasfilms to have a the one and two position of the year its been a great year for Star Wars.

Highest new entry of the week entering at 2 is the James Franco comedy Why Him? which takes a very respectable £2.1 million.

For a not franchise film and with Franco as the main headline this is actually a good debut, but with little publicity and very little word of mouth the film could sink fast.

Highest total grossing film is Rogue One while longest running film this week is The Secret Life of Pets which has now been in cinemas for 15 weeks and this week is at number 15.

Historical Charts

A year ago - Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens was in its third week of release and at number one still and with nearly £100 million gross was close to being the top film in the UK ever, Joy was the top new film at 3.

Five years ago - making its debut at the top was Mission:Impossible Ghost Protocol while Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows fell from the top to number 3.

Ten years ago - Night At The Museum was the top new film of the week making its debut at number 1 while Happy Feet fell to number 2 after 3 weeks at number 1.

Fifteen years ago - Two weeks at the top for The Lord of The Rings: The Fellowship of The Ring while the top new film was the remake of Mean Machine which landed at 3.

Twenty years ago - 101 Dalmatians remained at the top for a third week while top new film was Daylight which made its debut at number 3.

Twenty five years ago - Making its debut at the top was Curly Sue while The Addams Family fell to number 3 after 2 weeks at the top.
