Also new on this weeks box office is the bio-pic of the late Princess Diana, Spencer starring Kristen Stewart opens at number 8 with $2.1 Million.

UK box office QuickView

  • Number 1 - Eternals (1st Weekend)

US box office top 5 breakdown weekend 5th - 7th November 2021

Eternals

Oscar winning director Chloe Zhao brings her vision of the MCU to the big screen as the next Marvel Studios movie makes its debut at the top of the box office with a weekend gross of $71 Million.

As mentioned this is the fourth top movie of the last 20 months or so, or since cinemas closed for the pandemic, and all the films above it are from the Marvel stable of movies.

The mixed reviews may damage its future box office progress, and there are a number of bog movies coming, one of which is stable mate Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Dune

The Denis Villeneuve directed movie falls to number 2 this weekend with a third weekend gross of $7.6 Million, a 51% drop over last weekend.

The movie has not taken a very good $83.9 Million over its 3 weeks of release and its starting to challenge Blade Runner 2049 as the directors top grossing movie in the US.

No Time To Die

The latest Bond movie falls to number 3 this weekend with $6.1 Million, a small 20% drop over last weekend.

The movie has now taken $143.1 Million in the US over its 5 weeks of release, its not a great total for a Bond movie in the US but it is the 6th top grossing movie of 2021.

It is struggling to keep up with the other Daniel Craig Bond movies and could end up his lowest grossing, it certainly wont do as well as wither Skyfall or Spectre which took $304 Million and $200 Million respectively.

Venom: Let There Be Carnage

The sequel movie from the Sony side of the MCU has proved to be a far bigger hit than expected and this weekend falls to number 4 with a weekend gross of $4.4 Million on its 6th weekend, a slim 22% down.

The movie has taken a excellent $197 Million over its box office run to date and is the second top movie of 2021 in North America.

Ron's Gone Wrong

Reversing its box office decline to animated feature goes back into the top 5, at 5, with a weekend gross of $3.6 Million on its 3rd weekend, a very slim 4% drop over last weekend.

The movie has now taken $17.5 Million on its 3 weeks of release in North America.

The long awaited release of director Denis Villeneuve version of Dune finally gets a release and hits the top of the box office on its debut in North America.

Animated movie Ron's Gone Wrong also gets a release and hits number 5 this weekend while Wes Andersons latest movie The French Dispatch of the Liberty, Kansas Evening Sun makes its debut at 9 with $1.3 Million.

US box office QuickView

  • Number 1 - Dune (1st weekend)
  • Highest debut - Dune (@1)
  • Longest run - Free Guy (11 weeks)
  • Highest total gross - Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings ($221 Million)

North American top 5 box office breakdown 22nd - 24th October 2021

Dune

The movie got delayed by over a year, and after the failure of last years Tenet its wasn;t much of a suprise that Warner Bros. did, but this week the Denis Villeneuve vision of Frank Herbert classic sci-fi, impossible to film, book finally hits the box office.

The movie comes in with a weekend gross of just over $40 Million, potentially lower than expected as the movie is also available on HBO Max, altohugh as Halloween Kills has shown movies can do well as the box office even when on streaming the same day.

The film which stars Timothee Chalamet and Rebecca Ferguson might have a short stay at the top but the response has been god enough that a sequel is almost guaranteed.

Halloween Kills

Hitting the top spot last weekend the movie was always destined for a single weekend at the top and this week takes $14.5 Million on its second weekend of release, a large 71% drop over last weekend, maybe dur to its availability on streaming?

The movie has now taken $73.1 Million at the American box office, and although the movie might get a boost next weekend as its Halloween we should see the movie sink down the box office quite rapidly now.

No Time To Die

Bond movie number 25 has not quite hit the same stride in America as it has across the rest of the world and this week takes $11.8 Million, a 50% drop over last weekend.

The movie has been on the box office for 3 weeks now and has a US total gros of $120 Million making it the 7th top movie of 2021.

Venom: Let There Be Carnage

The superhero villain smash hit sequel falls to number 4 this weekend with $9.1 Million, a modest 45% drop over last weekend.

This gives the movie a total gross of $181.8 Million, very good for a sequel and its running almost parellel with its predecessor, the movie is now the 3rd top movie of 2021.

Ron's Gone Wrong

The new animated movie from directors Sarah Smith, who brought us Arthur Christmas and Jean-Philippe Vine makes its debut at number 5 this week with $7.3 Million.

Spending a third weekend at the top of the UK box office this weekend the 25th Bond movie No TIme To Die which is doing good numbers across the globe and has taken nearly $500 Million globally.

The highest new movie of the weekend is Venom: Let There Be Carnage which despite a strong challenge makes its debut at number 2 while the horror movie Halloween Kills is new at number 3.

To finish off this weeks top 5 there is Ron's Gone Wrong which comes in at number 5 while maybe a little disappointing the Ridley Scott directed The Last Duel misses the top 5 with an entry at 6 with £325,522.

It was a busy week for new releases with Honsla Rakh entering at 8 with £121,657 and Arracht entering at 10 with £35,150, finally there is a re-entry at number 14 for the seasonal favourite Hocus Pocus at number 14.

UK box office QuickView

  • Number 1 - No Time To Die (3rd weekend)
  • Highest debut - Venom: Let There Be Carnage (@2)
  • Longest run - Space Jam: A New Legacy (13 weeks)
  • Highest total gross - No Time To Die (£68.5 Million)

UK top 5 box office breakdown weekend 15th - 17th October 2021

Third weekend at the top for Daniel Craigs last Bond movie as the film adds £8.4 Million to its UK total, a 45% drop over last weekend take.

Venom: Let There Be Carnage

Highest new movie of the week is the sequel to 2018's Venom which enters at number 2 with a debut gross of £6.1 Million.

This is an excellent opening for the movie and is comparable to the original which opened at a similar time of year to £8 Million.

Halloween Kills

The long running Halloween series has been a long stay at the box office since 1979 and the latest movie this week makes its debut at number 3.

The movie is the middle part of a new trilogy directed by David Gordon Green and starring series mainstay Jamie Lee Curtis, its makes its debut with £1.6 Million.
