Disney/Pixar's high profile sequel Finding Dory makes its debut at the top of the UK home video chart this week knocking off The BFG.

Finding Dory has been a massive hit for the animated coupling of Disney and Pixar this year, on its release on 29th July 2016 it hit the top of the UK box office.

It has a massive first weekend gross of £8.1 million on its first weekend, its stay at the top only lasted for a single weekend initially.

After falling to 2 it then went back to the top for 2 weeks on 19th August before finally making a slow decent down the box office.

It spent 14 weeks on the top 15 before disappearing from cinemas but in the time it took at incredible £42.6 million making it the 41st top grossing movie ever in the UK, its it currently the fourth top grossing movie of 2016.

Across the globe it is the 23rd to grossing movie of all time with a global total gross of $1.026 billion.

The BFG falls from the top of the home video chart to number 3 this week after a single week at the top.

Only one other new film this week, Jason Bourne, a number 2 film from July enters at number 2.

The week director Steven Spielberg is at the top with him adaptation of the much loved Roald Dahl book The BFG.

Hitting the heights of number one on its debut week of release the film was a big hit in UK cinemas when it was released on 22nd July 2016 where it hit number 1.

The film didn't last more than a week at the top, but it turned into a massive hit and had a slow fall down the box office.

In total the film spent 14 weeks on the official top 15 and then spent 4 weeks still pulling in audiences at cinemas, it was still in some cinemas on its week of release on home video.

The film made £30.5 million at the UK box office and it is currently number 99 on the list of all time UK box office hits.

It didn't do that well across the globe, its clearly a very British story, it only made $178 million which is very low for a Spielberg film.

Last weeks top film, The Secret Life of Pets, falls from the top to number 3 this weeks after only a single week at number 1.

Other new film this week are Star Trek Beyond at number 2, a number 2 hit released on 22nd July 2016 and Ghostbuster (the remake) a number 1 film from 15th July 2016.

This week marvel proved they can add new characters to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in style by taking the latest addition to the top of the UK box office.

With a £9.2 million opening it is very good for a new IP in the Marvel series, in comparison Ant-Man made £4 million on its opening.

With Doctor Strange hitting the top, last week top film, Trolls, falls to number 2, a second weekend take of £3.5 million sees the film get to £ 14 million after 10 days.

Bridget Jones's Baby is the top total grossing film on the chart at the moment with £46.6 million and has out grossed all the other Bridget Jones films.

The BFG is the longest running film, the Steven Spielberg film has now been on the chart for 14 weeks.

Five years ago - The Adventures of Tintin The Secret of The Unicorn made its debut a the top knocking off Paranormal Activity 3 which fell to 2.

Ten years ago - Saw III was the top new film of the week making its debut at the top, it knocked off The Departed which fell to number 3.

Fifteen years ago - American Pie 2 remained at the top for a second weekend while Legally Blonde was the top new film at number 2.

Twenty years ago - Dragonheart stayed at the top and with nothing of note being released Dracula Dead and Loving It was the top new film at number 6.

Twenty five years ago - Dead Again made its debut at the top of the box office, it knocked off City Slickers which fell to number 2.

This weekend Jack Reacher gave it a good go but in the end her was not good enough to stop the Trolls from hitting the top on its debut weekend.

The new IP from Dreamworks hits the top with a weekend gross of £5.4 million which is about average for an animation from the studio, Kung Fu Panda 3, the last film from them took £4.7 million on its opening.

If things go as usual Trolls could get somewhere in the £10 million mark especially with a fairly decent debut.

The Girl on The Train falls from the top this week after a couple of weekends at the top, a £2 million weekend takes the film to £17.7 million after 3 weeks of release.

Also new this week is Jack Reacher Never Go Back which lans in the runner up spot with £2.6 million, this is in the ballpark, but lower, of the first film with took £3.5 million on its debut.

Longest running film of the week is The BFG which has been around now for 13 weeks and the highest total grossing movie is Bridget Jones's Baby now on £44.5 million.

Fifteen years ago - American Pie 2 stayed at the top while America's Sweethearts made its debut at number 2.

Twenty years ago - New at the top was the fantasy film Dragonheart while The Nutty Professor fell into the runner up spot after 2 weeks at the top.

On this weeks UK box office Bridget Jones's baby stays at the top for a second weekend and makes a big impact on its total UK gross, The Magnificent Seven is the top new film.

A second weekend of release brings in £6.2 million for Bridge Jones and with a very healthy weekly gross of nearly £13 million the films total gross is now £21 million.

This just nudges the film past the previous film in the series, Bridget Jones The Edge of Reason and its well ahead of the film film.

Highest new film of the week was no challenge for Jones as it lands at 2, The Magnificent Seven takes £2.1 million on its debut weekend.

For star Denzel Washington this is pretty much an average opening for his film and likewise for director Antoine Fuqua.

Longest running film on the top 15 this week is The BFG which is 10 week old now and highest total grossing movie is Finding Dory which now sits at over £41 million.
