$2.9 Million It was a battle for the top this weekend with the releases of Kung-Fu Panda 4 and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire both released for the Easter weekend, but the animated take and Kung-Fu panda sequel won the box office with less than a million pound between the two.
Kung-Fu Panda 4 took just over £5 Million on its debut which is better than the previous movies £4.7 Million but not close to the original movies over £6 Million debut.
Godzilla and King Kong movies have always done well in the UK and the release of the latest blockbuster to star both monsters makes its debut at 2 this weekend.
The movie takes just over £4 Million on its debut which in comparison to the last released movie, Godzilla Minus One is far batter.
Last weeks number 1 movie, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire falls by 47% this weekend and has taken a total of £8.2 Million over 2 weeks, actually better than Ghostbusters: Afterlife!
Highest new movie this weekend
As the blockbuster movies continue to get a box office release this weekend we have a rare non sequel movie as Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves makes its debut at the top.
After a single week at number 1 John Wick: Chapter 4 falls into the runner up spot with a large 62% drop over last weekend as the movies total goes to $122 Million.
Just in time for the Easter period religious movie His Only Son makes its debut at number 4 with a very reasonable gross of $5.3 Million on ites debut.
At number 7 there a new entry for A Thousand and One from director A.V. Rockwell who is making a directorial debut, the movie takes $1.8 Million over the weekend.
Avatar: The Way of Water and Puss In Boots: The Last Wish are at number 11 and number 10 respectively as they start the end of their journey on the box office, the Avatar sequel has taken $681.7 Million in total and the Puss in Boots sequel has taken $184 Million.
Highest new movie this weekend
Another new number 1 this weekend with the release of Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves at the box office which takes a very resonable £3.5 Million.
Also new this weekend is animated movie Mummies which is given a well times release over the UK school holidays while Dasara is new at 11 with £108,625 and Life of Pi: NT Live 2023 is new at 12 with £89,514.
Finally there is the new Florence Pugh movie God's Creatures which is new at 14 with £69,284 and Falstaff: Met Opera 2023 at 15 with £68,655.
Highest new movie this weekend
Starring Chris Pine in a new iteration of the Dungeons and Dragons story the movie makes its debut at the top of the UK box office with an opening gross of £3.5 Million.
Falling into the runner up spot after its debut at the top is the fourth chapter in the John Wick series which drops 51% this weekend.
The well times release of this new animated tale during the Easter Holidays gives it a new entry at number 3 with a gross of over half a million pound.
The disappointing release of the DC Universe latest movie gives it a hefty 57% drop on its 3rd weekend as its gross jump to just £4.8 Million.
Still going strong is the third movie in the Creed series which has taken £13.5 Million after 5 weeks of release.
Two potential blockbusters battled it out for the top spot this weekend, and with the school Easter holidays starting it was the video game adaptation Sonic the Hedgehog 2 which comfortably beat the Spiderverse Morbius.
New animated feature The Bad Guys also made its debut inside the top 3 making an all new top of the chart while at the other end of the top 15 True Things from director Harry Wootliff is new at 14 with £46,186.
UK box office top 5 weekend breakdown 1st - 3rd April 2022
The speedy blue hedgehog returns in a sequel to his surprise smash hit movie Sonic the Hedgehog from 2020.
This time he is accompanied by his buddy Tails and Dr. Ivo Robotnik has brought along Knuckles to try and defeat Sonic.
The movie makes its debut with a fantastic £4.9 Million which is a tiny bit higher than the original movie but definitely in the same ball park.
The timing of the movie could not have been better and it beats the much anticipated Morbius, altohugh Sonic 2 has had far better reviews.
The latest movie from the Sony Pictures Spiderverse of villains which also includes Venom lands at number 2 with a debut weekend gross of £3.2 Million.
This is lower than Venom and its sequel from last year Venom: Let There Be Carnage, but considering the negative critical review and word of mouth this is perhaps understandable.
Putting the movie against Sonic was probably not the best idea, it is the start of the UK Easter holidays and the younger audience has a better appetite for a video game adaptation rather than a movie based on a villain they have probably not heard of.
Completing a trio of new films at the top of the UK box office is the new movie from DreamWorks, the same studio that brought us the Shrek series of movies.
Positive reviews and the Easter holidays have taken the movie into the top 3 with a debut gross of £2.2 Million.
After 4 weeks at the top the lastest incarnation of the Caped Crusader falls hard to number 4 this weekend with a 5th weekend gross of £1,2 Million, a small 25% drop over last weekend.
This gives the movie a total UK gross of £37.8 Million over its 5 weeks of release and it is currently the top movie of 2022, and it is the 83 top movie ever in the UK!
The Micheal Bay directed Ambulance drama falls to number 5 this weekend with a second weekend total of £273,015, a 48% drop over last weekend, giving the movie a total of £1.1 Million.
After Bond 25, No Time To Die, steals the release date of Fast And Furious 9 the studio has moved the Vin Diesel movie to a little later in the year, May 28th.
The movie had already been moved from its original release date in 2020 to a year later, April 2nd 2021, then Universal moved No Time To Die to that date and we can't have 2 high profile action movies on the same day.
The only option was to move the car movie, a move which suggests that Universal has more faith in the Bond franchise than the Fast And Furious franchise, despite what the box office figures might suggest, but there we have it, a jiggle around for some high profile movies.
The new release date for F9 is Memorial Day in America and Bonds new release date is over the Easter period in the UK so maybe they are catering for the different markets!
With the move to may 28th it now clashes with Disney's live action Cruella (from the 101 Dalmatian universe) which stars Emma Stone as the title character, so expect that to either move or go to Disney+.
We're sure there are more changes to come so stay tuned for the latest information.
