Highest new movie this weekend
Despite the reports that have emerged over the months regarding the production of this much anticipated movie it manages to land at the top of the US box office on its debut.
The audience in North America was primarily female it it has got mixed reviews across the board but in the current theatrical climate a $19.3 Million debut is not too bad.
For the director Olivia Wilde this is a career high, but star Florence Pugh has been in some very high profile movie including Black Widow from 2021, but Midsommar from 2019 is a good comparison and that debuted to $6.5 Millon in early July.
Falling from the top spot this weekend is the Viola Davis movie which takes $11 Million on its second weekend, a 41% drop over its debut.
The movie has taken a total of $36.2 Million over its 2 weeks of release in North America.
Getting another cinema release in preperation for the sequel this December is the former highest grossing movie of all time in North America, which in a new 4K version lands at number 3 with $10 Million.
This is the movie 32 weekend on the North American box office and it is the 5th time it has has a re-release.
The movie has to date taken $771 Million at the US box office and is 4th top grossing movie in the US behind Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Avengers: Endgame and Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Low budget horror movies are the order of the day as Halloween approaches and the Zach Cregger directed movie drop to number 4 this week on its 3rd weekend of release with $4.8 Million, a small 28% drop over last weekend.
This gives the movie a total US gross of $28.4 Million over its 3 weeks of release.
Falling to 5 this weekend is another relatively low budget horror movie as the second film in the Ti West director X horror trilogy takes $2 Million on its second weekend, a 39% drop.

Anyone who has been to a Disney Park in America in the last 20 years will most likely have been on the Star Tours ride, a ride which was quite revolutionary and fun when first opened and I remember having multiple goes on when I first went to Disneyland in 1991.
Disney has announced that they are to close the ride and give it a re-imagining makeover which will open in 2011. By this they mean give it Disney 3D, improve the effects, and make the experience more thrilling with scenes from the new Star Wars movies.
The current ride is to have a massive send off in Florida's Disney World film park on August 14th titled Last Tour to Endor. If you happen to be in the area proceedings start at 8pm and go on till 1pm and you can but tickets at the Star Wars Celebration site.
At $75 I don't think I'll be attending but if you are a Star Wars fanatic and want to say goodbye to an old friend then this is your chance. Let me know if you happen to go.
