There are 4 new entries inside the top 5 on this weekends US box office, but none were strong enough to keep Spider-Man: No Way Home from spending another big weekend at the top.

Top of the new releases was Sing 2 which came in at 2, followed by The Matrix Resurrections which was new at 3.

British movie The King's Man was new at number 4 and then finally in the top 5 American Underdog came in just below.

Also new this week is A Journal For Jordan which came in at 8 with $2.2 Million and '83 from director Kabir Khan came in at 10 with $1.76 Million.

US box office QuickView

  • Number 1 - Spider-Man: No Way Home (2nd weekend)
  • Highest debut - Sing 2 (@2)
  • Longest run - Eternals (8 weeks)
  • Highest total gross - Spider-Man: No Way Home ($467.3 Million)

US box office weekend top 5 breakdown 24th - 26th December 2021

Spider Man: No Way Home

The smash hit Marvel/Sony movie spends a second weekend at the top of the US box office with a weekend gross of $81.5 Million, a 69% drop over last weekend which isn't too bad considering the giant debut gross the movie had.

The movie has now taken a total gross in the US of $467.3 Million making it now by far the top grossing movie of 2021 having grossed twice as much as the movie at number 2 for the year, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.

The movie also this weekend enters the top 20 US movies of all time at number 19.

Sing 2

Highest new entry of the weekend is the animated sequel movie which takes $23.7 Million on its debut.

The film is a sequel to the 2017 movie Sing which took $35.2 Million in North America on its debut on its way to $634.2 Million over 9 weeks.

The Matrix Resurrections

The long awaited follow up to the highly successful Matrix series of movies makes its debut this weekend at number 3 with $12 Million.

The pre hype for the movie was sky high, but an luke warm response on its release, and a simultaneous HBO Max release has by the looks of it damaged its box office potentital.

The King's Man

A prequel to the Kingsmen movies lands at number 4 this weekend with a gross of $6.3 Million.

Matthew Vaughn directs once again, but Ralph Fiennes takes over in the lead role this time, but diminishing returns seems to have set in for this series.

American Underdog

Making its debut at number 5 this weekend is this inspirational movie starring Zachary Levi about a down on his luck potential NFL great, the movie takes $6.2 Million on its debut.

The Meg retained its lead on the global box office this week with no film really giving it a challenge with the highest new film, Europe Raiders, coming in at number 7.

The giant shark movie starring Jason Statham grossed $88 million dollars from 56 countries on its second weekend of global release.

This brings the film total global gross to $314.1 million after 2 weeks of release.

Staying at 2 on the chart is Chinese film The Island which takes $38.7 million from 3 countries to bring its total global gross to $163.1.

Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation is at 3 this week, a $31.9 million weekly gross brings the films total to $425.9 million.

Mission:Impossible Fallout is at number 4 with $31 million while Crazy Rich Asians is at number 5 with $25.9 million.

There was just one major release this week there which basically means there was inevitably going to be a new film making its debut at the top, and as predicted Warner Bros. Suicide Squad does just that.

Continuing the DC Cinematic Universe that was started in Man of Steel and Batman V Superman Dawn of Justice this film does something the Marvel/Disney have not yet dared, put the bad guys front and centre.

And audiences have lapped this up with Suicide Squad topping the UK box office with an excellent £11.2 million, nearly as big as the much more anticipated Batman V Superman from March.

That superhero movie sank quickly at the box office so we'll be watching things closely to see if it does similar.

Worth noting is that if the chart listing was taken over the whole week then Finding Dory would sit at the top with £12 million.

Highest total grossing on this weeks top 10 is The Secret Life of Pets which has now grossed over £32 million, while longest stay on the box office is The Angry Birds Movie with 11 weeks.
