It's time for another catalogue film to hit the top of the UK box office as England comes out of lockdown and cinemas slowly start to open again, 231 cinemas made up this weeks box office.
Elf was first released in the UK at the beginning of December 2003, it never hit the top then spending 4 weeks in the runner up spot, exactly 17 years later the movie get to the top.
Highest new movie of the week is a new telling of Charles Dickens A Christmas Carol while outside the top 5 Katherine Jenkins Christmas Spectacular makes a debut at number 10, director Rob Savage's move Host is new at 14 and the re-edit of The Godfather Part III is new at 15.

Here is a breakdown of the top 5 film on the UK box office 4th - 6th December 2020.
After 17 years director Jon Favreau's festival favourite hits the top of the UK box office, albeit under strange circumstances, with a weekend gross of £48,244, a 97% increase from last weekend.
The big increase from last weekend is due to the increased number of cinemas that have re-opened, but the movie has taken a total of £17 Million since its release in 2003.
The Chris Columbus movie falls from the top this week with £36,878, a 93% increase from last weekend!
This pushes the movies total gross to £9.64 Million since its 1990 release.
Highest film of the weeks that is not a re-release is this animation from directors Tomm Moore and Ross Stewart which takes £26,171, a 94% increase over last weekend.
The movie has now taken £74,874 since its release 4 weeks ago.
Highest new movie of the week lands at number 4, a re-telling of the classic Christmas story, this time directed by Jacqui Morris and starring Simon Russell Beale and Martin Freeman.
The film takes £22,366 on its debut weekend of release.
Finally on the top 5 is the former number 1 movies which takes £21,952 on its 7th weekend of release giving the animated take a total gross of £1 Million, it finally made it over the Million line!
King Fu Panda 3 stays on top of the UK box office for a second week as not much of a challenge enters the market in preparation for an explosion this coming weekend. Panda 3 only needed £1.7 over the weekend in order to stay on top, although the threequel is behind the other 2 in the series at this point.
After 10 days of play the film has a total gross of just over £7 million, the easter holidays are next week so it could hold up well again, although Zootopia will bring major competition.
Highest new film of the week enters at number 2, 10 Clover Field Lane is an odd successor to Cloverfield, but not a sequel.
£1.6 million for the weekend is not a bad entry although opened to £3 million+, this will struggle to meet even that.
Also new this week is: The boy at number 5, High-Rise at number 6 and Kapoor and Sons at number 10.
Highest total grossing film of the week is Deadpool at number 7 with £36 million over a 6 week run.

Ten years ago - The Pink Panther was the highest new film of the week at number 1 knocking chicken little down to number 4.
Fifteen years ago - Enemy At The Gates entered at the top and it knocked Chocolat down to number 2 after a week at the top.
Twenty years ago - Get Shorty was the top new film of the week entering at the top while Trainspotting fell to number 3.
Twenty five years ago - The Godfather Part III remained at the top of the box office while Awakenings was the top new film making its debut at number 2.
Stopping London Has Fallen in its tracks after only one week at the top King Fu Panda 3 flies in with a high kick that no one could stop.
Taking a reasonable £4.7 million from the weekend this is the lowest debuting film for the series to date.
Kung Fu Panda 2 and the original broth managed to gross in the region of £6 million on their debuts.
With Disney's Zootopia just round the corner and getting great reviews Kung Fu Panda 3 could well struggle to bring in decent numbers.
Falling from the top spot to number 3 after its debut at the top is London Has Fallen, a second week gross of £1.8 million brings its total to £6.4 million after 10 days.
Highest total grossing movie on the box offie this week is Deadpool which after 5 weeks has taken £35.7 million.
