Cinemas in the US will start to open from July 4th with many announcing they will open a couple of weeks later on July 16th so we are still rely on unofficial sources for the US box office chart.

Topping this week from what is now over a thousand cinemas open we have the 1993 classic Steven Spielberg movie Jurassic Park while the top new film is follows at number 8.

Here is a breakdown of this weeks 'top 5'.

Jurassic Park

Released in 1993 this was the first movie to use CGI effects to a large degree and make it a central character, and the film was a monster hit and was for a time the highest grossing movie in the world.

The movie has had a couple of re-releases and this week it is the top grossing movie in the US with a weekend gross of $517K, its total gross is $403.8 Million over 27 years!

Jaws

Director Steven Spielberg again is at number 2, this time with his timeless classic shark movie which celebrates 45 years this year.

The movie takes $516K this week which pushes the films total US gross to $260 Million over its 45 years of release.

The Invisible Man

Back to modern movies and after spending 10 weeks on the chart 15 weeks after release (it had a few weeks out of cinemas when they first closed down), the Universal movie takes $201K pushing its total to $64.9 Million.

Trolls World Tour

Considering this animated sequel got a lot of press for going direct to VOD the movie is at number 4 this week having taken $160K for a $3.8 Million total after 6 weeks.

The Hunt

At number 5 this week is this horror movie which seems to be getting a bit of a cult following and this weekend takes $136K for a $5.8 Million total after 7 weeks.

Followed

Highest new entry of the week is at number 8, this low budget horror movie based on a serial killer not liking people following them on social media has taken $107K over the weekend.

Cinemas across the globe are starting to re-open and a trickle of figures are starting to emerge, and before we get an official global box office lets take a look at what still doing well across the globe.

These figure and generated from various sources and collaborations and are the closest we can get to an global top 10 during the ongoing pandemic, these charts by their nature are fluid and change as the week goes on, we will change this report to reflect the changes.

The Invisible Man

Led by drive-in theatres in the US the Blumhouse Productions horror movie is still doing well across the globe despite being available on VOD for a couple of months now.

The movie take $450K this week and has taken $129 Million global since first released 15 weeks ago.

The Real Exorcist

The Japanese film has been around for a few weeks now on the charts from Japan and this week tops the charts in that teretory and is at number 2 on the global charts with $397k.

The film has a global total gross of $4.3 Million after 5 weeks of release.

Little Women

Greta Gerwigs adaptation movie spends another week on the global box office and sits at number 3 this week with $384K pushing its global total to $214.6 Million.

Trolls World Tour

Despite being made available on VOD day and date with a theatrical release the animated sequel is at number 3 this week with $348K for a total gross of $3.3 Million.

Jumanji: The Next Level

Despite being released at the tail end of December the sequel movie starring Dwayne Johnson is still doing well in theatres and this week takes $327K pushings its total gross to $805.2 Million.

Infamous

No big new films are being released at the moment with the first being Mulan on 24th July (at the moment) which gives this low budget movie a change to be the top new film of the weekend with a debut gross of $160K from American drive in theatres.
