It's all change again at the top of the US box office as 2 new entries are in the top 2 position, highest of the two is the new movie from director M. Night Shyamalan Old which hits the top.

US box office QuickView

  • Number 1 - Old (1st Weekend)
  • Highest debut - Old (@1)
  • Longest run - A Quiet Place Part II (9 weeks)
  • Highest total gross - A Quiet Place Part II ($157.5 Million)

US box office top 5 breakdown weekend 23rd - 25th July 2021

Old

The new movie from director M. Night Shyamalan makes its debut at the top of the US box office this weekend with a gross of $16.5 Million.

The famed directors top movie in America is still The Sixth Sense from 1999 and with the current pandemic and cinema closures it wont come anywhere near that, but his lowest grossing is The Lady In the Water at $42.2 Million and although a struggle it could come close to that!

Snake Eyes

The new movie from the G.I Joe series of movies is an origins film and comes in at number 2 with $13.3 Million.

This movie had a lot of hype and its perhaps a disappointment that it came in at number 2, but Old had good word of mouth and this movie got hit hard by the critics, and I dont think there was much of an appetite for it!

Black Widow

Falling to number 3 this weekend is the latest Marvel movie which this week takes $11.6 Million, 56% down from last weekend.

This gives the movie a 3 week total gross of $154.8 Million, and its the 3rd top grossing movie of 2021 in America but its maybe lower than expected, it has the pandemic to content with and it is also available on Disney+ with an extra fee, and it wont be long before its available without the extra fee, also Marvel are doing very well on Disney+ with WandaVision, The Falcom and The Winter Soldier and Loki all having been big hits.

Space Jam: A New Legacy

Falling to number 4 from the top this week is the Space Jam sequel which has a second weekend gross of $9.5 Million, a large 70% drop over last weekend.

This gives the movie a total US gross of $51.3 Million and the prospect of disappearing out of the box office in the next couple of weeks, on a positive note it is the 8th top movie in America in 2021 so far.

Fast & Furious 9

The lastest The Fast Sage movie is sinking fast at the box office and this week takes $4.7 Million, 38% down from last weekend.

This gives the car movie a $163.3 Million total over 5 weeks of release, it is the top grossing movie in America of 2021 so far taking over from A Quiet Place Part II this weekend but this is most likely the last weekend in the top 5.
