Cinemas are back open in the UK after nearly 5 months of being closed and there are a whole host of new releases this week to mark the occasion.

Most of these new movies came out on Monday, and many of them have been delayed from last year, and some of them are already available on streaming so there is a nice mixed bag.

Here is a rundown of this weeks new movies in the UK.

Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway

• Will Gluck also directed Friends With Benefits in 2011 which grossed £6.2 Million in the UK.
• It stars James Corden who last starred in Superintelligence (2020).
• The film also stars Elizabeth Debicki who last appeared in The Burnt Orange Heresy (2019).

Spiral: From the Book of Saw

• The movie is directed by Darren Lynn Bousman
• Darren Lynn Bousman also directed Identity Lost in 2001.
• It stars Chris Rock who last starred in The Witches (2020).
• The film also stars Samuel L. Jackson who last appeared in Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019).

The Unholy

• The movie is from director Evan Spiliotopoulos
• It is their directorial debut.
• It stars Jeffrey Dean Morgan who last starred in Walkaway Joe (2020).
• The film also stars Cary Elwes who last appeared in Black Christmas (2019).

Nomadland

• The movie is directed by Chloé Zhao
• Chloé Zhao also directed The Rider in 2018 which grossed £36.3 Thousand in the UK.
• It stars Frances McDormand who last starred in The French Dispatch of the Liberty, Kansas Evening Sun (2020).
• The film also stars Gay DeForest who is making a feature film debut.

My New York Year

• The movie is directed by Philippe Falardeau
• Philippe Falardeau also directed The Bleeder in 2016.
• It stars Margaret Qualley who last starred in Seberg (2020).
• The film also stars Sigourney Weaver who last appeared in The Meyerowitz Stories New and Selected (2017).

Army of the Dead

• The movie is directed by Zack Snyder
• Zack Snyder also directed Dawn of the Dead in 2004 which grossed £5.4 Million in the UK.
• It stars Hiroyuki Sanada who last starred in Mortal Kombat (2021).
• The film also stars Dave Bautista who last appeared in My Spy (2020).
• Hiroyuki Sanada and Dave Bautista starred in Avengers: Endgame (2019) together.

Sound of Metal

• The movie is from director Darius Marder
• It is their directorial debut.
• It stars Riz Ahmed who last starred in Mogul Mowgli (2020).
• The film also stars Olivia Cooke who last appeared in Naked Singularity (2021).

Those Who Wish Me Dead

• The movie is directed by Taylor Sheridan
• Taylor Sheridan also directed Wind River in 2017 which grossed £1.2 Million in the UK.
• It stars Angelina Jolie who last starred in Come Away (2020).
• The film also stars Jon Bernthal who last appeared in Le Mans '66 (2019).

Rare Beasts

• The movie is from director Billie Piper
• It is their directorial debut.
• It stars Billie Piper who last starred in Eternal Beauty (2019).
• The film also stars Leo Bill who last appeared in In Fabric (2019).

IT has a good run at the US box office, and continues to do well, but it gave up the crown to Kingsman The Golden Circle this weekend.

Not a fantastic opening weekend for the British secret agent sequel but its $39 million was enough to see it open bigger than the first film.

As we enter the winter season with a number of big film on the horizon this will effect Kingsman 2’s long term appeal, but for now its on a roll.

IT falls off the top after a couple of weeks at number 1 to number 2 with a weekend gross of around $30 million.

This pushed the films total gross after 3 weeks in the US to $266 million, and it is this week top total grossing movie on the US box office.

Also new this week are The LEGO Ninjago Movie which enters at number 3, after Batman and the Lego movie maybe a little disappointing, Friend Request at number 7 and Stronger at number 9.

Longest running film on the US chart this week is Wind River which this week notches up its 8th weekend.
