US release: 9th January 2026When the movie was first released it was a quirky movie about multiverse jumping, coinciding with the release of Spider-Man: No Way Home, but here we are nearly a year later and the movie is doing well in the awards season and is nominated for 11 Oscars.
The movie is nominated in the following categories
Its good to see a movie like this getting recognition for its creative flair and anti-blockbuster independent look and feel.
Michelle Yeoh gets recognitions in a lead actress role although Cate Blanchett is also nominated for Tar and is the current favourite.
Jamie Lee Curtis gets her first ever nomination but Angela Bassett also get a nomination for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever which is the current favourite.
Here is a list of all the movies up for best picture of the year
Its interesting seeing both Avatar: The Way of Water and Top Gun: Maverick on the list, 2 of the highest grossing movies of the last 12 months, Oscar does not normally award big budget, high grossing blockbusters, although neither will probably get the award!
In the lead actor category Colin Farrell gets a nod for The Banshees of Inisherin but the hot favourite is Brendan Fraser in The Whale who is the one to beat.
The most wide open category is best director which has no out and out leader, Steven Spielberg is an Oscar darling and must be a favourite for The Fabelmans, but then Daniel Scheinert and Daniel Kwan must also be in with a shout for Everything Everywhere All at Once.
The ceremony takes place on Sunday March 12th and the full list of nomination can be found on the Oscars Website.
The Russo Brothers who directed the last 2 Marvel Avengers movies, the second of which is the top grossing movie of all time, have teamed up with Spider-man Actor Tom Holland for their new movie Cherry.
The story centres around a war veteran who is struggling to re-establish himself into society and starts robbing banks.
A hard hitting drama the trailer looks at the romance in the story before then hitting you with the horrors of war and the reality of coming home after seeing things you never dreamed of.
Along side Holland is Ciara Bravo who is the love interest in a movie which is far removed from the Marvel Universe for both Holland and The Russo Brothers.
The movie gets a March 12th release on Apple TV.

Featuring the voices of Kelly Marie Tran (Star Wars: The Last Jedi) as the fearless warrior Raya and Awkwafina (Jumanji: The Next Level) as the dragon Sisu.
The trailer is full of action and definitely has that magical look and story telling that Disney has become known for.
Its looking like it will be a big hit for Disney in spring next year, if the cinemas re-opening allow, otherwise it could be straight to Disney+!.
Production was about quarter of the way through on The Batman before it was halted because of the global pandemic, and unsurprisingly the release date has now shifted to 1st October 2021.
The original release was set as 25th June 2021 but after the halt in production that was never going to happen.
The film is directed by Matt Reeves and stars Robert Pattinson as batman along with Colin Farrell and The Penguin and Andy Serkis and his trusty butler and friend Alfred Pennyworth.
Other film on the move from the DC universe are The Flash movie which is now set for 3rd June 2021 and the Shazam! sequel which gets moved to November 4th 2022.
Also getting a change is The Sopranos prequel movie The Many Saints Of Newark which will now be seen in cinemas on March 12th 2021.
Disney are at it again moving Pixar's Soul from June 19th to November 20th and their own Raya And The Last Dragon to March 12th 2021.
This first move, Soul, is an interesting one, Disney recently moved their tentpole picture Mulan to 24th July, I guess they are presuming cinemas will be open again by then, but by moving Soul they seem to be suggesting that things will still be on lockdown in mid June?
The move also puts the film in direct competition with Godzilla Vs. Kong, and since that film has been moved once already I suspect unfortunately that the film may well go direct to streaming, a lot depends how long the lockdown lasts though.
Raya And The Last Dragon was due for a late November release and it makes sense to move the film to 2021.
The scheduling issue are starting to get a bit of a nightmare mind as this move to Raya puts it in loose competition with many tentpole films from various studios, and means that early 2021 is starting to get very crowded.
Expect more re-scheduling from studios as there is still no sign of cinemas opening in the coming weeks.
