Ray Winston takes us on a nostalgia trip (for those who remember) with a reimaging of the mid 70's TV series The Sweeney taking the box office crown.

Director Nick Love is the writer and director or this TV series transition which has clearly hit a note with British audiences as its opening weekend manages a low but impressive £1,545,294. Last weeks top film Dredd has a large fall to 5 this week with a weekend take of £769,381 taking it's 2 week total to £2,725,180.

The Dark Knight Rises continues to make money and is by far the top film of the year now with a UK gross of £55,769,510 having been on the charts for 9 weeks.

A year ago the spy thriller Tinker Taylor Soldier Spy debuted at the top with £2,814,860 knocking The Inbetweeners Movie down to second place.

Five years ago Run Fatboy Run was still at the top while challenger Superbad entered the chart at 2.

Ten years ago M. Night Shyamalan was still in favour at Disney and took Signs to the top of the box office knocking The Bourne Identity off.
