US weekend box office top 5 breakdown 30th - 1st January 2023

Three weeks on top now for the sequel to the 2009 movie Avatar which takes $66.8 Million this weekend which is the same as from the Christmas weekend last week.

This gives the movie an amazing total of $425 Million over its 3 weeks of release, and it is tracking about $12 Million ahead of Avatar which is the 4th highest grossing movie of all time in America.

The movie is the third highest grossing movie of 2022 in North America and with 2022 over now Top Gun: Maverick takes the honor of the top movie of the year, but the Avatar sequel could in a few weeks become the top grossing movie released in 2022.

The sequel movie from the Shrek universe remains at number 2 this weekend with a gross of $16.3 Million, a 12% drop over last weekend.

This gives the movie a total gross of $60 Million over 2 weeks of release.

The original Puss in Boots from 2011 had taken $75.5 Million on its second weekend of release after a $33 Million weekend.

The latest marvel movie which is a sequel to Black Panther goes back up to number 3 this weekend with from number 6 with $4.8 Million, a decent 28% increase on its 8th weekend of release.

The movie has taken an incredible $427.9 Million since release and is the second top grossing movie of 2022.

The Witney Houston bio-pic drops to number 4 this weekend with $4.2 Million, an 11% decrease on its 2nd weekend.

Considering last weekend was the weekend Christmas fell on which probably kept a lot of people out of cinemas and many were closed for a day this is not a good sign for the movie.

The total gross if a very disappointing $14.8 Million after 2 weekends of release.

Another movie which seems to having a disappointing run is the Damien Chazelle directed movie starring Margot Robbie and Brad Pitt which takes just $2.7 Million on its second weekend of release, a 24% drop.

This gives the movie a total gross of just $10 Million after 2 weeks of release.
